My Model Classroom

In my classroom there are twenty students. These students range from the age three to five. Almost half of my students are English Language Learners. This makes it difficult for not just the student, but for myself as well because communication is limited.

In my classroom we are teaching the students social emotional skills and how to cooperate in a group setting. They are being introduced to their ABS’s and 123’s and learning how to be independent. Independence is an important quality for the children in my classroom. I want them to be independent in the classroom, bathroom, playground, and cafeteria.

My classroom is set up where there is not any assigned seating when they are sitting at the tables. The students are able to choose where they want to sit as long as there is space in that area. During rug time, I usually have assigned seating at the start of the year because I want the children to get familiar with each other. During rug time it becomes helpful to have assigned seating as the children begin to remember what friends sit where.

As far as technology in the classroom I use my lap top and a television screen to display pictures, or information about a subject I am teaching. For instance, we watched a live feed of bald eagles as they had babies and those babies grew up to be independent themselves. The kids loved this!

Passos Avante Preschool is open from 7:15-4:30 and are one of the most affordable preschools in the city of Peabody.
